Development Engineering Intern 

TECH MET, INC. – GLASSPORT/DONORA, PA

WHO WE ARE:

JOB SUMMARY 
Engineering intern will be responsible for performing a variety of engineering level tasks and analyses to assist Tech Met engineering in the continuing development of chemical processes for the surface treatment and optimization of metal alloys parts.  

Performs various manual tasks which could include: 

 

1.    Standing while performing scheduled tasks:    4-6 Hours per shift
2.    Sitting while performing manual data recording, analysis or reporting:  4-6 Hours per shift
3.    Walking:  1-2 Hours per shift
4.    Repetitive hand and arm movement utilizing inspection tools:  6-8 Hours per shift
5.    Lifting:  20-30 lbs. as necessary
6.    Wearing proper provided PPE (boots, gloves, safety glasses, aprons and respirator while performing scheduled engineering tasks)
7.    Working in production rooms both dry and wet (chemical environments)
8.    Chemical transferring (wet and dry) and titration of samples utilized in processing tanks.
9.    Small scale processing tests of printed alloys in prototype solutions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1.    Mixing of chemical solutions for small scale lab testing
2.    Weighing and measuring samples before and after processing, tabulating results and finding trends in the resultant data
3.    Participating in Design-Of-Experiment (DOE) testing and analysis on chemical processes
4.    Generate documentation, such as test results and analyses, processing summaries and work procedures

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1.    Ability to understand and follow provided training and instructions to execute processing of customer product.
2.    Strong background or interest in LEAN, Six Sigma and process optimization methodologies
3.    Ability to learn and perform finite measuring processes using both basic and complex quality tools.
4.    Strong problem-solving ability.
5.    Comfortable facilitating teams, strong computer skills including office suite.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Post-secondary education in engineering or related field.
2.    Strong self-direction and demonstrated history of goal focused behaviors.
3.    Willing to work weekends and nights as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.

Chemical Surface Technician I

TECH MET, INC. – PRIMARY LOCATION: DONORA, PA

WHO WE ARE:

Tech Met, Inc. an employee owned company, is a leader in custom and standard chemical milling. Providing services to the Aerospace, Medical, Military and Commercial markets with precision chemical milling on fabricated components since 1988, we specialize in complex and precise chemical milling for build to print and custom projects on a wide variety of materials.

THE POSITION:

Our fast-growing company has an opening for a Chemical Surface Technician I. The preferred candidate should have experience working in a manufacturing position.   

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • With close supervision/training this position etches specified portions of metal parts and materials using immersion equipment, templates, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.

  • Reads work order, customer provided drawings, and process specifications to determine location of etch, finished dimensions, and method and sequence of operations. 

  • Cleans surface of parts and materials to ensure uniform adhesion of maskant. 

  • Applies maskant to surfaces to be etched, scribes etch lines, using template, and removes maskant from etch areas. 

  • Immerses parts and materials in etching solution for specified time, manually or using hoist. 

  • Removes objects from etch solution, rinses objects with water, and removes remaining maskant. Measures etched parts and materials for conformance to specifications, using micrometers, scales, and other precision measuring instruments. 

  • Immerses parts and materials in successive baths and rinses to perform surface processing in addition to etching, such as passivating, degreasing, and stripping, and be designated process equipment operator.    

  • Operates sand blaster machine and small hand tools such as micrometers and calipers. 

  • May inspect parts, use inspection equipment and understand quality requirements.

  • Performs dipping and masking of parts.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or a general education diploma (GED)

  • Must be able to read & use a non-metric measuring tape

  • Must be able to count & perform simple mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division)

  • Ability to work overtime and various schedules when necessary including weekend hours and/or evenings

  • Travel between Tech Met Donora and Glassport locations may be required
